endless loop movie synopsis

I'm being vague about the plot on purpose, because it's ultimately not the main focus of "The Endless," and because so much of the film's effectiveness comes from comparing what we're told would happen against what actually does happen (or what appears to happen). Report this film.

2018

He's pictured standing beside the door of a shack that's been sealed with a huge, 19th-century looking padlock: nobody ever goes in there. Things get weird before the brothers even reach the compound, thanks to an atmosphere of mystery and menace realized with clever sound design, a synthesized score (by James Lavelle) that samples "House of the Rising Sun" and evokes the best of John Carpenter; and unexplained images that recur. Like much of the cast, Benson and Moorhead play characters who share the performers' real-life first names—a common indie filmmaking affectation that wouldn't raise an eyebrow if this were a drama, but that adds one more layer of oddness in a science-fiction film. Even as a viewer you will tend to look for some rational explanations for what is going on. The film seems to be set sometime before or immediately after the dawn of the 21st century, judging from the video technology and flip phones and apparent lack of Internet access, but we can't be sure. There are some good ideas in "Endless Loop" and the movie is not the typical hence boring horror flick of today's cinematic world. The cult prides itself on having no leader, but is this true?

I can handle the truth. The circular visual motifs and circular (or repetitive) plotting evokes films that examine karma, evolution, free will and destiny by confronting their characters with variations of the same challenges over and over again: think of "Edge of Tomorrow," "Groundhog Day" and "Looper." If you have a good idea, a strong cast, a smart script, and directorial chops, you don't need a lot of money to make a compelling movie.

Soon, Chen turns out to be the real protagonist of the story. Apparently, he is a wanted person, at least his picture is in a newspaper, and then there is also the story about a serial killer. The story starts because of one journey. "The Endless" is proof.

As the movie goes on, even older technology starts to appear, some of it so visibly filthy or damaged (or so divorced from necessary accessory tech, such as as batteries or cords) that there's no way it could work; but of course it does work, conveying messages that seem generated by malevolent forces. Either everything is suddenly covered in dust, or the lighting is different etc. The group is constantly hungry and the food spoils quickly. Mirrors are as important, too.

But walking in one direction Han Shen and Chen Jia quickly end up back at the same spot where they started. Among the passangers on the bus are insurance salesman Ma Wen (Luan Yuanhui), tunnel engineer Han Shen (Chen Zhen), pregnant woman Wu Yu (Cheng Shuang), supposedly elegant lady Tang Xinyu (Yu Weiwei) and teenager Xiaoxi (Qi Lanyin), who takes care of her autistic little brother Zhouzhou (Lu Zhuo). Eventually, the group discovers a secret room and in it they find a plan which shows six tunnels connected to one another.

So, the group walks from one tunnel to the next and even if the setting remains the same, there is always something different about each tunnel. Seven people who have never met before climb aboard the same ride that goes into a seemingly endless tunnel. Sometimes they experience and re-experience the same events from the same angle, or a slightly different angle. Made by fans in Auckland, New Zealand.

Which can also be a positive thing, just not in this case.

What these brothers are ultimately searching for is a place to call home. Justin is the older brother, Aaron the younger. Justin thinks this is a bad idea but agrees, out of love for his brother and because, on some deep level, he misses it, too. The tunnel seems to be an endless loop.

But it doesn't take long and they realize that not only space works strangely in the tunnel, but time as well. ‘黑暗迷宫’

Seven people who have never met before climb aboard the same ride that goes into a seemingly endless tunnel.

A simple card trick that Justin smugly sees through gives way to a trick involving a baseball, so impervious to rational explanation that it chills the blood. There are throwaway lines about how particular characters in the film are a lot older than Aaron and Justin, even though they're played by actors their age or slightly younger.

Immerse Yourself in Martin Scorsese’s World Cinema Project #3, New Works Virtual Festival Rescheduled for November, Seeking Editors, Video Interview: Aaron Sorkin, Eddie Redmayne & Frank Langella on The Trial of the Chicago 7. Desperate, the passengers collect all the remaining food they have with them. It doesn't matter to them if it's a cult compound full of deluded, psychologically destructive manipulators or some sort of intergalactic prison, torture compound or zoo (or whatever this place is), as long as they know their way around, and are surrounded by faces they recognize.

The story begins with Justin and Aaron living an anonymous life as regular citizens. Mobile site. The best are probably Moorhead; Benson; Hernandez; Kira Powell as the kind of glassy-eyed kook that Shelly Duvall used to specialize in; and James Jordan as a Dennis Hopper-like babbling lunatic named Shitty Carl. But it's ultimately the suggestions, implications and shock effects that put the story over the top, as well as the emphasis on the characters' neuroses and longings. Directed by He Wen. There's an overcast sky with a hole punched through the clouds; round wind chimes clinking in in the breeze; wooden benches arranged around a campfire.

Surely, this shows that the filmmakers were on a tight budget, but the sets also skillfully establish an atmosphere of otherworldliness.

Then there is a room, in which the wanted serial killer puts all his trophies on display, and this room doesn't just exist once. Do they have free will, or did their psychological conditioning by the cult turn that into one more illusion, like the strange images they encounter around the camp? There's a quiet, reactive fellow named Tim (Lew Temple) who has a bushy red beard, long red hair, an angular face, and the authoritative demeanor of a tribal chief. Instead, the characters are more like clichés: the autistic boy, the dolled up Xinyu, who sells herself for some food, or the egoistic insurance salesman. Overalls, i liked half of the film. Even if the tight budget is noticeable at some points, the eerie atmosphere is captured nicely and the idea behind the story is rather praiseworthy, despite it being not that original anymore. Or maybe we should call them "saucer shapes." They turn around and drive into the other direction, but even after thirty minutes, they are still in the tunnel. However, up until the big twist, "Endless Loop" manages to keep up the right amount of suspense and mystery elements to entertain the audience and make us impatiently await some answers. Unfortunately, the pacing with which we get more and more crazy stuff thrown at us, increases so much towards the end that you get completely lost. And this will be tough, considering all the inexplicable events, but at a certain point, a twist presents itself, which puts everything into a new light. Be that as it may, you still won't get bored. The only problem is that it also causes a disruption in the narrative style.

What is going on in the tunnel?

And the blatantly "big" performance moments are balanced out by numerous, just-right grace notes, such as the teasing, familiar, brotherly way that Justin and Aaron talk to each other, and the zonked-out, practically affectless way Powell's character corrects Justin, telling her that a meth-head hermit she just described to him wasn't a boyfriend, but "just this guy I was sort of obsessed with, when I was on lithium, Thorazine and PCP.". Later, we get a reason for them being so one-dimensional, but it doesn't really help the movie all that much. Why does time work differently in the tunnel and what is it that makes every passenger go crazy after a while?

Review: "Endless Loop" is a horror thriller, which instantly focuses on those kinds of supernatural elements that can easily glue the audience to the screen. All of the lead performances are superb.

Movie: Endless Loop Title: Endless Loop Chinese Title: 黑暗迷宫 / Hei An Mi Gong ... Synopsis and Plot Summary. Directed by He Wen. The story starts because of one journey. Overseen by the filmmaking team of Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead—who specialize in brainy meta-horror, and who star as brothers who decide to revisit the UFO cult where they grew up—this is a movie that plays with our perceptions of time, space, and reality, and sketches the outlines of unimaginable terror while leaving the details to our imagination. Ma Wen tells the group about a serial murderer, who is striking terror into people's hearts in the area, and when the bus drives through the tunnel, the group picks up a man who introduces himself as Chen Jia (Nie Yuan). It doesn't work with simple heart-stopping moments, instead everything gets more and more unreal with each passing moment, which is also reflected in the nice sets.
